In today’s episode of racial malarkey…
While watching the recent Vice Presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence, I came across a tweet from Charlie Kirk, a.. uhh.. well other than a podcast host and a fan of dictator Trump, I’m not sure what he does.
Anyway, here’s the tweet:
I read this and thought to myself, what debate is he watching? Then of course my immediate next thought was that he wasn’t watching the debate, he was looking at Kamala through the same lens of the fly that landed on Mike Pence’s head.
One full of bullshit.
I sat to write this thinking it would be a well executed piece on racism and privilege and why black people, particularly black women, have every right to be mad as hell.
A few days passed and now as I’m sitting again to write, I realize I don’t feel like being calm and collected.
I want to cuss repeatedly. About as much as Mike Pence lied during the debate.
White people continue to pull off unmitigated bullshit on a daily basis and expect black people to “stay in line” and pretend everything is fine.
“Oh we gave them a black president. Why are they still upset?”
The sad part about it is that sentence even made a sound at all because it left some sad white person’s lips.
Kamala stayed calm when she sat and kindly listened to Pence lie repeatedly for over an hour.
She remained poised when he continued to cut her off, one of the microaggressions white people love to use in their effort to exert the control they think they have over everything, particularly black voices.
She was gracious and respectful in a situation that called for every last ounce of black girl magic she could muster, and she was still accused of being an angry black woman.
Racism has proved to be the height of delusion and the ultimate stripping away of logic, and the hell fire it it rains down on black people is frustratingly unspeakable.
White people in this country are so obsessed with race they want black people to believe that WE are the ones obsessed with race.
Meanwhile they are the ones that created a constitution deeming black people as 1/3 a person. They are the ones that have enslaved us, whipped us, raped our women, created laws that protect them and isolate us, and continue to hide behind uniforms and kill us.
This is all over SKIN COLOR, which is the result of white people’s ancestors settling farther away from the equator causing their skin to become lighter.
There’s no way that any of this should have become so messy and complicated and deadly for black people.
There’s no way Kamala Harris should have been in an environment where her health was endangered by the Vice Pathological Liar and she still be labeled an angry black woman.
I heard and read the same about Michelle Obama, and I still call bullshit.
Black women have been through enough in this country. They continue to fight for black AND WHITE PEOPLE and they still get looked at as nothing more than their emotions.
Even when black women have every right to go bat shit crazy and don’t, they are still called angry and bitter.
It’s stupid and it’s racist. Oh wait, that was a redundant sentence. Sorry about that.
No really. I’m not.
No matter how many intelligent words I string together, black people are still going to be denied loans, still going to be paid less, still going to be judged by our first names and the communities we grew up in, still going to be cheated at the polls, and still going to be killed in the streets either the day before our wedding (Sean Bell) or in our grandmother’s backyard (Stephon Clark), or on the way home from the corner store (Trayvon Martin) or while we’re asleep in our own bed (Breonna Taylor).
This is all because of the COLOR OF OUR SKIN.
Even in death black people will still be cheated as the media choses to dig up old stories from the past and pitch them as a narrative that the dead black person was up to no good anyway.
So today, for Kamala Harris, I say IT’S A BUNCH OF FUCKERY!
In March of this year I wrote “Jack From State Farm: The Fragility Of White Privilege.” The focus here was on that fact that some white people were terrified that the original Jake From State Farm was replaced with a black actor.
TO THIS DAY I am still receiving hate mail and negative comments from white people calling me a “race baiter”, “presumptuous”, and telling me I should be ashamed of myself, all because I think black people deserve fair representation in media.
You can’t make this shit up, and that’s the crazy thing.
Some white people will say we as black people are making all of this up.
We’re making up the fact that we are statistically more likely to be killed by police than white people. We’re making up the fact that we’re spending more time in jail than white people for the same offenses.
Redlining? Made up.
Use of our elementary school grades to forecast the building of prisons? Not real.
Not hiring us because there’s “a very limited pool of black talent” Mr. Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf? Nah, he didn’t mean that the way it sounded.
Usually when a dumbass speaks out loud, they mean every word of what they say, and the “dumb” part speaks to the fact that they were stupid enough to say it out loud in the first place.
Charles Scharf = Dumbass.
First of all, black people do not have the kind of time to make all of this shit up. Even in our wildest dreams there is no way in hell we would think of all this evil.
We’re too busy tryin to fight it off.
What’s worse, white people want to deny racism, something that impacts almost every facet of our daily life, then call us crazy?
Well shit, we have the right to be crazy.
Look, I’ve always said that racism is in no way an indictment on all white people, and I stand by that, so if you’re reading this and you’re white, please know that I’m not angry at all white people.
The ones that bother me are the ones that are so fired up in their racism they call Kamala Harris anything other than amazing, profound, and prolific.
The ones that bother me are the ones that are going to create a Medium account or find me on Facebook just to tell me how obsessed I am with race and that I need to get a life.
Please know that pointing the finger at me by making a negative comment does not change what you’re guilty of. In fact, your choosing to comment negatively goes with one of my grandmother’s favorite adages: “A hit dog will holla”.
I’ll leave it with one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Jane Elliot. She said on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” back in 1992, “Racism is a mental illness… If you judge other people by the color of their skin — by the amount of a chemical in their skin — you have a mental problem. You are not dealing will with reality.”
